three things: easter edition

Happy (good & earth day) friday! That means that easter is just around the corner and it has been a favorite holiday of mine for quite some time, mostly because when I was a kid, it was my grandma's favorite and she made it so fun for us grands. She would make each of us a basket with the best candy and goodies and hide it in her huge house and it was up to us to find it! To this day I still try to carry on her tradition in making easter baskets. Here are a three fun ideas of things to add to your baskets...

homemade holidays DIY {Ear Warmer Headband}

I don't know about you guys but when winter comes, my ears take a beating. I feel like I'm always forgetful when it comes to covering them or keeping them warm and then disappointed that I forgot. Well friends, here is your solution, an ear warmer headband. I came across this idea for it about a week ago and jumped at the chance to give it a try. And friends, it was a success!

It was another really easy project to put under my small sewing belt. I started with an old thermal that I don't wear that often and 'upcycled' (another case of new uses for old things) it into my ear warmer headband.

I simply cut the shape of it. Roughly, 24" long X 5" wide and tapered the ends, hemmed the edges, added a button to one end and a button hole to the other and it's done. For added flare, I made a flower out of the same material. (basically just 5 or so cut flower shapes that I layered onto the side of the headband) You could also add a handmade bow for a little extra decoration.

homemade holidays DIY {Apron}

The crafting bug has definitely bit me and I'm so glad because I found this fabulous idea for gifts this year for my gal pals. A lovely handmade apron. It's pretty much the EASIEST sewing project I have committed to and the even better part is... it's made out of only a fat quarter of fabric! How great is that?! If you want to join me in this years handmade holiday season, there are endless thoughtful and creative projects to dream up. This is just my first, so be sure to check back because there will be more inspiring ideas to come.

Just think you could pair the apron with a yummy cookbook for one of your fantastic friends..

DIY {necklace holder}

As I mentioned before, I recently moved residences and am currently crafting up a ton of fun, and aesthetically pleasing projects for my new home. I am so excited to share my first project, a DIY framed jewelry holder. I got so tired of my boring wood hooks I used to have and wanted to make something new and easy. I've always loved incorporating frames with jewelry holders and this was my opportunity to do so. It was super fun and super simple. I started with some plain wood frames, painted them (my favorite fall color) mustard yellow, removed the glass, framed the fabric, added some hooks I painted black and viola! A lovely little piece to hang all my precious necklaces on.

{DIY} paperless lists

I'm 90% sure I'm not the only person who has endless pieces of paper all over the place with messy to do lists written on them. And as a result, I think I've found an alternative to my obsessive list making: a homemade dry erase board, to write whatever it is I please. I found this cute one, and decided to make one of my own.

My dry erase how-to: I picked up a plain frame, painted it a funky old green, and then framed this adorable modern-ish fabric from Joann's. (Yes, I know it's that easy!)

Here's to more endless list making, just hopefully more organized and eco friendly!

This board also doubles as a nice piece of wall decor if you are ever in need of a quick art pick me up. I think this piece will finish up my frame collage in my room as well. YAY! Photos coming soon!
