for the love of ampersand

During my years studying design, I developed quite a soft spot for this little ampersand. Mostly because I had to do an extensive project drawing the transformation from the letters 'et' which mean 'and' in Latin to the shape that the ampersand is now. I made the drawings into a flip book and it was pretty interesting to see how the letters turn into the symbol. To this day I still love seeing the ligature because their shape is so beautiful. Don't you agree?

bright gold

Often in life, we are in need of reminders for a number of things. Some may carry higher importance than others; nonetheless, I like to be reminded of the simple things in life like stunning color pairings and the golden rules.

the letter lady

While decorating our little house and scouring every outlet to find something that both myself and the boyfriend would like was definitely a challenge, as our tastes couldn't be more opposite. The one thing we do see eye to eye on is our love for design, the reason we met in the first place and my love for type has never been the same. In our ventures to spice up our walls, I was reintroduced to this amazing lady and I can't stop drooling over her letter forms. Aside from the daily drop cap project which the following prints were made from, everything on her site is awe-inspiring.

That ampersand is my absolute favorite! And to top it off, she has the coolest tattoo that she drew herself of course!

that time of year

This was too good to not share today. A lot of my springtime and summertime favorites are on this poster... ice coffee, bicycles, taco trucks, fireworks and outdoor concerts, just to name a few.

What reminds you of your favorite season?

funny signage

I wish I had an establishment that was in need of this type of signage. It's awesome!

sweet illustrations

For quite some time I have seen these decals from shanna murray on various blogs and have been completely intrigued by them. Her simple little illustrations and sweet sayings stole my heart. I particularly love how they're a place to hold your inspiration for when you need it the most. If only I could have a chalkboard wall to go with them.

inspiration {lyric poster}

A few days ago, I was in need of some type inspiration. Needless to say that I came across these simple lyric posters and completely got my fix. The simple type layouts and fun surprises made it worth the search. It was quite entertaining looking through all the posters mostly because I was simultaneously challenging my music knowledge to see if I could remember the song.

A funny coincidence: the boyfriend knew I was looking for type inspiration and the next day at work he had sent me these same posters. I guess it's true, great minds DO think alike.

dear blank

Yesterday I had a much needed afternoon full of design. It was quite refreshing since I haven't been able to fully engulf myself in it lately like I needed to. While I was indeed designing some striking and adorable paper goods, I would've thrown writing one of these brilliant prints into the bargain, no problem.

mad happiness

Coming from a love of design and an infatuated interest in the crazy world of advertising, I was beyond ecstatic to find out that there was a show about all of the ad goodness in the sixties, Mad Men. In my down time, my boyfriend (who shares a similar affinity) and I have been anxiously trying to catch up. We're up to season 3 with a few to go, and I have to say I love it. I love even more that I found this etsy print of a Don Draper quote...

What is happiness to you?
